SE7EN SIDED
L-R:
Darren (singer/rhythm guitar), Aaron (drums), Graham (lead guitar), Chris (bass)
How did you get the band name?
(Aaron says) A seven-sided object (heptagon) is a very unique and uncommon shape/figure - we feel that our sound and style of music reflects that as we have a unique and special sound.
Tell us about your latest/upcoming single/album?
(Darren says) Our new album 'The Silver Lining' I feel is a really tell all record that anyone can relate too. There are songs about torn relationships, life struggles, love ballads & even songs about going through changes in your life but staying optimistic about those changes. The album really reaches into a lot of different situations in life.
(Aaron says) Our new single 'Your Fool' from our debut album 'The Silver Lining' is a loud and angry love song about a bitter break-up - it is not your typical love song. It is currently receiving nation radio play in Canada and we're very excited about that! You can check it out @ http://myspace.com/se7ensided or http://www.se7ensided.com
What’s your favourite song to play live?
(Aaron says) My favorite song to play live is 'Break Me Out', we have an awesome intro for the song that we play live (the song is usually the show opener) and it sets me up perfectly to play the rest of the set - it just gives me that energy and adrenaline that I need to kick some ass on stage!
(Darren says) I think either 'Break Me Out' or else my personal favorite off the album 'It's Over'. Both very energetic and just powerful songs.
(Graham says) Your Fool, I feel like I become a different person on stage when I play that song, it's so energetic and melodic at the same time.
What is the best live show you've played so far?
(Aaron says) We recently opened for Social Code (formerly signed to Interscope & Universal Records and has the #10 single in Canada right now) @ The U of A Beer Gardens and we played to probably about 800 people or so! It was a great show, and we all played a really great set! The sound guys and other bands were phenomenal as well!!!
(Graham says) Playing for Social Code was definitely awesome and probably one of my favourite shows, but we played a show in Calgary for a burlesque festival and it was awesome; they were really into it, and a few girls actually came up on stage and started dancing hahah.
Where would your dream venue be to play a live show?
(Aaron says) A sold-out show @ Wembley Stadium would be a dream gig for me! 90,000 screaming fans... yeah, sounds about right!
(Darren says) any sold out stadium, arena, venue, out door festival. Where ever people decide to come see us live and pack the venue.
(Graham Says) Rexall place, (Edmonton's arena) every time I go there to a show I tell myself that I will sell this place out one day.
What is the weirdest thing a fan has asked you to sign?
(Darren says) A very young girl once asked us to sign her White downfilled vest. I felt pretty guilty and didn't want to ruin her vest but she insisted so we all signed it...hopefully she didn't get into trouble from her parents haha.
(Aaron says) A ticket stub, or a CD, nothing overly wacky ... yet!
Why do you love your fans so much?
(Darren says) Cause their real people who have a love and passion for the music we write. We've helped change, influence or affect their lives in some way or another with our music. But the fact is I feel that they've changed our lives in such a positive way and like Aaron said they help us to what we love to do! Play music!
(Aaron says) Because they are the only people who keep us afloat. Without fans we are nothing, plain & simple! They buy our music, they support us, they come out to shows, what more can we ask for? We love them to death!
(Graham Says) Aaron and Darren basically said all what could be said but every fan means so much to us all, when you start seeing familiar faces at shows and the un-dying support... nothing beats that.
What song do you wish you had written?
(Aaron says) Champagne Supernova by Oasis... it's just a perfect song and it's an epic! It's hard to go wrong with that, basically everyone in the world knows that song! On second thought, I wish I would've written the album '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?' !!!
(Graham Says) Fade to black from metallica, just a masterpiece!
(Darren says) Tons of songs I hear and I stop and think to myself...now why couldn't I have written that song. I can't even narrow it down without listing like 50 songs haha.
What’s your favourite concept album?
(Aaron) I don't really know too many concept albums to be perfectly honest, haha.. 'American Idiot' or '21st Century Breakdown' are the only ones that come to mind and I don't want to pick either one!
(Darren says) I have no clue.
What’s the weirdest conversation you have ever had with a fan?
(Aaron says) Well I was once talking to a fan who I was convinced was a small boy - that later I realized was just a petite girl!! I kept calling her 'Buddy' and 'Pal.' I felt like a bit of an ass after that!
(Darren says) Haha @ Aaron's response. I completely remember that and felt horrible about it too. Thanks for bringing up sad memories Aaron!
Who argues the most?
(Aaron says) We're all pretty good about it, an ex member was the worst for sure - but we won't name names now!!
(Darren says) Me and Graham argue sometimes when it comes to writing, but we never end on a bad note (no pun intended) or angry with each other. We have different methods or styles of writing so sometimes its an argument for what we feel would benefit the songs. But the outcome/end product of the argument is usually a big benefit for the song.
(Graham says) Aaron by far .... jk ;) haha that kid never argues, me and Darren haha, but its always for the good of our music.
Who has the worst habits and what is it?
(Aaron says) I don't know!!!!
(Darren says) Aaron's smoking :) haha j/k
(Graham says) I'm a video game junkie, I cant get enough of my PS3
Who is your idol, and why?
(Aaron says) Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver) - He's just such a cool guy!!! He has vision, passion and is just one of the most bad ass front men I've ever seen - just a true artist!! I've had the pleasure of seeing him live 3 times, and every time is a blast! He has such stage presence and charisma!
(Darren says) Multiple idols for sure...Aaron Lewis - Staind, Shaun Morgan - Seether, Matthew Good, Jacoby Shaddix - Papa Roach, Adam Gontier - Three Days Grace, and all the boys in Social Code. Just all amazing performers and have influenced anything from my stage presence to my writing!
(Graham says) Randy Rhoads. hes the reason why i wanted to play guitar, but theres so many others as well.
Would you ever play a gig naked?
(Aaron says) If the price was right & plus no one would notice me anyway - I'm behind a big old set of drums :)
(Darren says) I agree with Aaron's first part of his answer...the money would have to be huge haha...but I'm front and center on stage so that'd be interesting...I would need multiple Jager-Bombs and my Family to never see the video footage.
(Graham says) oh yes, no money needed, I'd get butt naked if I wouldn't get thrown in the slammer ;)
If you were a camel who would you most like to spit on?
(Aaron says) Kanye West? I really don't know! If I was a camel I wouldn't have problems with anyone.. so maybe just an unlucky passer-by.
(Darren says) I would be upset I was a camel in the hot desert and everyone wanted to ride on my back...so I'd probably just spit on everyone. P.S. I was Kayne West for Halloween! haha
(Graham says) Shaun Paul.
Sum your music up in two words?
(Aaron) Really Good!?
(Darren says) Driven Rock
(Graham says) super sexy
If you were to have one superpower, what would it be?
(Aaron says) Flight! Definitely! I wanna fly!!!!!
(Darren says) Control of time....I could do about anything I wanted...pause time...rob banks...make a mistake...rewind...get through something boring fast forward....the opportunities are endless! Enjoy your flight Aaron! haha
(Graham says) Immortality ;)
What’s the weirdest gift a fan has ever given you?
(Aaron says) :( Nothing! No gifts whatsoever :( !!!
(Darren says) a #7 pool ball haha, Ironic?
What do you enjoy the most about being in the band?
(Aaron says) Everything... this is my dream. I love being able to play and create music with guys who are all on the exact same page as me! Then we take the tunes we've put our hearts and soul into and rock them out on stage for old fans and people seeing us for the first time - it's just a rush!
(Darren says) Every single aspect...I don't see it as hard work I see it as passion and lust for life! I'm the type of person who is wired to push and persist on accomplishing and meeting goals...and I love it cause the band is always a constant winding road...you win some...and you lose some but thats just part of the game. Today we lose...tomorrow we win and get that one step further in the industry. Plus I love the guys I play music with...their family to me.
(Graham says) writing new music, playing on stage, getting success after all the hard work. It's like another family as well, just everything about being in a band with these guys is great, even when we have our disagreements or things seem down I do love these guys to death and playing this music in every way.
What band would you love to play a show with?
(Aaron says) Muse would be a dream gig, they are just so grandiose... they are amazing!!! Or the Kings of Leon, another great modern rock band!!! (The list could go on & on..)
(Darren says) Nickelback, Seether, Three Days Grace, Staind, Social Code (Again), Paramore, etc! I love to play with any well established rock band in the world.
(Graham says) what Darren said
Who writes the main amount of your material?
(Aaron says) Darren!!!
(Darren says) I guess a lot of the initial song writing and structure starts with me and I like to bring it to the boys see what they think and then watch the song grow with everyones input etc.
What are the plans for the future?
(Aaron says) Well we're booking a nation-wide tour of Canada going from one side to the other - it'll be a great opportunity to meet and play for new fans :) Then we will probably start writing more tunes for our next album!! We'll just keep pushing, and promoting our music and never stop!
(Darren says) Heading out on Canadian Tour, Gain more commercial radio play, share the stage with more well known rock acts, break into the USA & Europe music markets. And start working on our follow-up 2nd album!
